The Amazon Kindle Paperwhite e-reader finally says a long overdue goodbye to the aging aesthetics of the silver/grey dust coating that was ridiculed on earlier Kindle models. The tablet looks a lot smarter in sophisticated black attire.

The front also has a sexy glossy bezel while the rear is coated with a tactile rubber which is handy for club-handed users who usually damage their handhelds by accidental dropping them. In an overhaul of the design, the new Kindle does not have a home button, which is temporarily confusing if you are used to traditional button-filled devices.

Still you soon adapt. When you need to get back to the main menu on the Paperwhite, you tap near the top of the screen, then pressing the ‘home’ icon – a familiar icon if you are used to any desktop experience, and gives the user interface a neat and tidy appearance.
